Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan State has been harmed by “large monetary sums” with the vandalization of energy transmission lines in many provinces of the country.

The information was provided by the executive administrator of the company Rede Nacional de Transporte de Electricidade (RNT), Pedro Sebastião, on the sidelines of the 12th Consultative Council of the Ministry of Energy and Water, which takes place in Benguela.

“The recent vandalization of three towers on the Cambambe-Viana line was valued at over 70 million kwanzas”, he gave as an example.

Pedro Sebastião pointed out the angles of transport line towers, guard cables and fiber optic cables, as the elements most targeted by criminals.

As preventive measures, he said that the company has initiated contacts through the local branch of the National Police, to “help stop this evil that is plaguing the entire society”.

Referring to the usefulness of that equipment, he explained that the angles serve for the sustainability of the towers, while the guard and fiber optic cables guarantee communication between the different electrical installations.

He called for vigilance across society, justifying that “many of these towers pass through inhabited areas and that is where the highest rate of vandalism occurs”.

Asked about the country’s existing electrical systems, he said that RNT has the responsibility of promoting the interconnection of the four electricity supply systems in Angola.

According to him, the North and Center systems are already interconnected and there are several projects to connect the other two.

He informed that the Southern system will soon be interconnected, through the construction of a 220 kilowatt line, which will connect the Gove dams, in Huambo, and the Matala dam, in Huíla.

He added that there will also be another 400 kilowatt line between these two provinces.

As for the East system, which corresponds to the provinces of Lunda Norte, Lunda Sul and Moxico, he said that it will be interconnected to the North system through the Malanje-Xamuteba connection, and from this municipality to Saurimo.

“There has been a great effort by the Government to seek financing so that these activities are feasible”, he highlighted.

Among the MINEA group of companies, RNT is the company responsible for transporting energy from electrical production centers to distribution.

The 12th MINEA Advisory Council is evaluating progress in accessing and improving the quality of energy and water services, in addition to reflecting on the need to attract Investment and Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs), in the market model and adequacy of tariffs and sustainability of Public Companies.

Topics such as “Production, distribution and commercialization of water in the north, east, center and south” are highlighted at this meeting, in addition to the assessment of the Program of structuring actions to combat the effects of the drought in the South of Angola (PCESSA).
