His Excellency José Maria Pereira Neves, President of the Republic of Cape Verde,
Distinguished Guests
Excellencies,
I am pleased to say that I feel deeply honored to be awarded the highest distinction of the Cape Verdean State today, in a context in which the State visit to Cape Verde, during which I have had the opportunity to address all matters that can significantly contribute to the continuous strengthening of bonds of friendship, solidarity and cooperation between the Republic of Angola and Republic of Cape Verde.
Mr President
Your Excellencies,
It is a source of great pride for me to be participating in this act in which I am awarded the First Degree of the Amílcar Cabral Medal, as I interpret this tribute not as an act of a personal nature, but rather, and fundamentally, as a gesture of recognition of the role that the Angolan people that I represent here, played with profound dedication in the struggle of the African National Liberation Movement, for the eradication of the Apartheid regime in South Africa and the consequent liberation of the peoples of Southern Africa.
My emotion is even greater to be sharing this moment with the Cape Verdeans, who generated one of the best children in Africa, an intellectual of international standing, and with a profoundly humanist stature, in whom we are inspired for the liberating deed in which we have been involved for decades in the struggle against colonial domination in Africa.
I am obviously referring to Amílcar Cabral, this respectable African figure who honors and gives his name to this honorable medal that has just been awarded to me.
We are participants in the construction of our nations and heirs to the legacy of Amílcar Cabral, Agostinho Neto and other illustrious figures in the contemporary history of Africa. left as a legacy, of the patriotism that moved them at every moment of their lives, of the sense of justice that permeated in all their acts and of the love they nourished for their people, for which they dedicated a large part of their lives, in favor of the rescue of dignity of the African man.
I am in Cape Verde to convey to you the feeling of sympathy and friendship that binds our two peoples united by a common history, by the healthy coexistence that has developed over decades and that remains until today in the fraternal relationship and always friendly that established itself between Angola and Cape Verde.
This distinction will serve as a stimulus for us to continue the efforts aimed at strengthening the ties that unite us with Cape Verde, in favor of progress, economic growth and the well-being of the populations of our respective nations.
Thank you very much, Mr President!
