Africa-Press – Angola. The deputy governor for the Political and Social Sector, Apolo Ndinaulenga, in Ondjiva, Cunene, encouraged former combatants and veterans of the country to opt for family farming and commercial activities for subsistence.
Speaking on the occasion of the commemorations of the 15th of March, the Day of the Expansion of the Armed Struggle for National Liberation, he added that “a man with a field is in a better position than someone with a diploma”.
According to the official, the date served to honor the national citizens who, with a lot of sacrifice, bravery and determination, gave their best for the most noble common cause of the Angolan people – the conquest of National Independence.
Apolo Ndinoulenga encouraged the country’s former combatants to continue on this path with a view to guaranteeing national unity, defending peace and social justice for the conservation of the people’s historical and cultural mosaic.
The director of the Office of Former Combatants and Veterans of the Homeland, Eugénio Ndamenapossy, said that March 15 is “the date of the union of the peoples of Angola against the Portuguese colonialists marked around the events of that time”.
The 15th of March would mark the beginning of a long war between 1961 and 1974, with the involvement of national liberation movements such as FNLA, MPLA and UNITA.
