Africa-Press – Angola. The first Economic Cooperation and Cultural Exchange Forum between the provinces of Moxico and Northwest Zambia, held in the city of Luena, ended this Thursday, with the signing of several agreements to encourage agricultural production.
According to the final communiqué of the meeting, in the economic field, the parties analyzed opportunities in the agriculture, trade and infrastructure sectors, having agreed on several cooperation programs, partnerships and incentives, with emphasis on corn, wheat, rice, soybeans, cassava and pineapple.
It also includes the production of fertilizers, food storage, surveillance and management of livestock diseases, trade in agricultural products, the construction of border infrastructure and the use of the Lobito Corridor.
In the field of Defense and Security, according to the statement, the parties assessed the situation at the common border as stable and controlled, however, they recommended continuing to raise awareness among the population regarding respect for migratory rules and the opening of more border posts.
In the social and cultural domain, it was proposed to exchange experiences, reinforce cross-border meetings to control endemic diseases, send professionals specialized in different areas of health training.
It also provides for the joint implementation of projects in the areas of technical and higher education, environmental management, national and foreign languages, among others.
The parties agreed to hold the second regional cooperation and exchange meeting in the North-West province of Zambia from 11 to 14 December.
On the occasion, the governor of Moxico, Ernesto Muangala, promised to implement the points of agreement during the meeting, to meet the needs of the population.
The minister (governor) of the Northwest province of Zambia, Robert Lihefu, said that the implementation reiterated the need for the railway connection, as a measure that could provide several business opportunities to the populations of the two regions.
During its stay in Moxico, the Zambian delegation paid visits to the Moxico General Hospital, photovoltaic plant, under construction in Luena, a border post with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), “General Sapilinha Sambalanga” Airport, as well as the Istituto Tecnico Luau Agrarian (ITAL).
