Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan ambassador to the Swiss Confederation, Filomena Delgado, expressed this Tuesday, in Zurich, the intention of attracting more Swiss companies to invest, above all, in the pharmaceutical industry, taking advantage of the investment opportunities that the Angolan market offers.
Quoted in a press release, the diplomat, who was also speaking as part of the celebration of the 48th anniversary of Angola’s Independence, celebrated on the 11th of this month, showed that she was available to work towards strengthening relations between the two countries.
He stated that Angola and the Swiss Confederation have expressed interest in deepening cooperation in the most varied areas, with the bilateral political consultation mechanism having been boosted, different matters of common interest being addressed, including the assessment of the degree of implementation and negotiation of agreements, the exchange of experiences, as well as regional and international issues.
On the occasion, the ambassador also praised the friendship, fraternity and solidarity dedicated to the Angolan people, confirmed by the presence of Swiss diplomats at the ceremony.
He also highlighted the ongoing reforms in Angola, which are transversal in nature to the most varied sectors of national life and have been recording notable successes in the country’s business environment, generating opportunities for national and foreign investors.
In this sense, he pointed to the new Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport and the exemption from tourist visas for citizens of 98 countries who intend to visit Angola as attractive examples for foreign investors, including Swiss citizens.
He also highlighted the strong participation of the Swiss multinational, Trafigura, with 49 percent of capital in the reconstruction and expansion project of the Lobito Corridor, an important railway line that will connect three countries in the region (Angola, DRC and Zambia).
He also recalled that Angola is a country that loves peace and stability, which works to consolidate its democracy and economic growth, and which will continue to develop its foreign policy based on the principles of respect and equality between States.
In relation to the Angolan community residing in Switzerland, Filomena Delgado made a firm commitment to working hard with her team so that the most disturbing problems are resolved or alleviated gradually, always on the basis of inclusive dialogue and constructive partnership.
Among those present at the ceremony celebrating the 48th anniversary of National Independence, special mention should be made of Ambassador Philipp Stalder, director of the Sub-Saharan Africa and Francophonie Division of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland, the Angolan ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, Margarida Izata , as well as members of the Diplomatic Corps accredited to the Swiss Confederation and to the UN in Geneva.
Also participating in the ceremony were the ambassador of the United States of America to Switzerland, Scott Miller, diplomatic representatives from Russia, China, the United Kingdom, representatives of the Angolan communities residing in Switzerland, among other individuals.
