Africa-Press – Angola. The Secretary of State for Oil and Gas, José Barroso, stated in Luanda, that the improvement in performance in the fight against corruption in Angola, in the last six years, has had a positive impact on the business environment and serves as an example for transparency.
The person in charge, who was speaking at the opening of the II Compliance Forum in the oil sector, indicated that in terms of perception about corruption, referring to the year 2022, Angola went from 27 percentage points to 33, worth the rise to position 116, against the previous 140.
Compliance is today the main antidote for companies against the problems caused by corruption and failures in human conduct, for this reason, José Barroso made it known that one of the strengths of the oil sector has to do with ethics and compliance.
“All processes in the sector are linked to the two points mentioned above, so to be part of the sector you need integrity”, he asserted.
Integrity, he added, constitutes an essential tool to guarantee the trust of investors and the general population, helping to strengthen the foundations of compliance, ethics and integrity in the sector.
For the president of the Board of Directors of the National Oil and Gas Agency, Paulino Jerónimo, compliance encompasses awareness of good practices, values of fairness and transparency, with emphasis on the capital-intensive oil sector.
“We are certain that only with the combination of forces and ways of proceeding, engaging direct and indirect actors in the sector, for better results, adding value”, he asserted.
He stated that this is how they have worked to mitigate actions that could harm the integrity and trust in the processes.
Transparency and commitment to compliance, he pointed out, are fundamental to guarantee the stability and credibility of the sector and, in this way, protect the interests of Angolans and the business environment.
ANPG’s audit and integrity director, Carla Matoso, announced on the occasion that it is already planned to carry out a sectoral assessment of the oil industry on issues such as the risk of money laundering, financing of terrorism and the proliferation of mass distribution weapons. .
Auditing specialists and technicians from the oil, banking and insurance sectors discussed, at the II Compliance Forum in the oil sector, organized by ANPG, aspects of compliance, good examples and how to share experience with other sectors in the country, as well as perspective the future.
The first event, also organized by the Oil and Gas Agency, was held in 2022.
