Lack of hygiene in stores in Bié remains worrying – says ANIESA

Africa-Press – Angola. The coordinator of the National Authority for Economic Inspection and Food Safety (ANIESA) in Bié, Figueiredo Numbi, reiterated this Thursday, in Cuito, the need for economic operators to put greater emphasis on hygiene issues, to avoid situations contrary to public health .

The concern was presented at the end of a multisectoral visit that aimed to inspect the main commercial establishments as part of the launch of the operation called “Safe Christmas”.

The action, which takes place throughout the province of Bié, aims to guarantee food security for populations before, during and after the festive season.

In Cuito, capital of the province of Bié, for example, the multisensory team visited several bakeries, restaurants, supermarkets and some stores dedicated to selling wholesale products.

In almost all cases, some products were displayed on shelves without great hygiene conditions.

Others still presented products unfit for consumption.

This reality, according to Figueiredo Numbi, was observed in more than 40 commercial establishments visited throughout the province, which currently has more than 12 thousand commercial establishments duly licensed.

However, he said that the brigades on duty are instructed to remove all industrialized products that are past their expiration date, to avoid possible cases of poisoning due to consumption of contraindicated foods.

So far, two companies in Cuito have been fined due to their severity. The others deserved awareness-raising actions to improve the spaces.

Participating in the operation, which lasts until January 15th, are agents from the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC), the General Tax Administration (AGT), the Civil Protection and Fire Services (SPCB) and health technicians.
