Africa-Press – Angola. Interclube’s senior men’s handball team will not defend the bronze medal in the Cup of Cups, an African club competition, won in 2020, in the Moroccan city of Meknés.
The announcement appears in one of the communiqués of the Angolan Handball Federation (FAAND) which, as a result, delayed the start of the National Championship of the category to 10 to 20 May. The test was initially scheduled to take place between the 20th and 30th of April.
FAAND alludes to the African competition, whose dispute was delayed from 8th to 17th of April to 10th to 19th of May, in Niamey, Niger.
“As Angolan teams do not participate in the 38th edition of the cup of the winning clubs, it forces us to adjust the internal competition, taking into account the participation of the selection in international competitions”, reads the federative document.
Our report tried, without success, to contact the management of the club assigned to the National Police, but the federation’s justification leaves no doubt. Interclube snatched the bronze medal of the last edition held in Meknés, Morocco, by beating JSK of the DRC by 29-28 in the award game.
Immediately after the national competition, the coach will call up those selected for the African Cup of Nations scheduled for 22 June to 2 July, in Morocco.
FAAND also changed the period of dispute of the national junior championship, initially scheduled for 8th to 17th of April, in Namibe. The start of the competition was delayed to the 11th.
According to the statement from the rector body, the change is due to the coincidence between the day scheduled for the start of the test and the day of the end of the school tests. The end of the competitions is scheduled for the 8th. The junior competition will be marked by the return to competitions of the Sagrada Esperança da Lunda-Norte team, one of which confirmed its presence, in a total of 12 teams registered.
Chapesseca do Huambo, 11 Bravos do Maquis, Mora Sport do Virei, Ara da Gabela, Interclube, Maxinde de Malanje Social Work, Estrelas do Palácio da Huíla, Ferroviário de Luanda, AD Madeira, Sporting de Cabinda, Sa-grada Esperança da Lunda -North. Interclube is the champion in title.
