Africa-Press – Angola. The provincial governor, Marcos Nhunga, pointed out the improvement of inter-municipal sections, the expansion of the electricity and drinking water network as the local government’s main bets for 2024, aiming to stimulate the socio-economic progress of Malanje.
Such bets, according to the governor who spoke at the traditional end-of-year greeting ceremony, are essential for the development of any district, hence the government’s commitment to boost these sectors.
In the field of communication routes, he said that the implementation of the 400 kilometers of road, recently approved, is underway, prioritizing the municipalities of Marimba, Quela, Cunda-dia-base and Quirima, in addition to the city of Malanje, which will benefit from 24 kilometers, covering the Maxinde, Vila Matilde and Catepa neighborhoods.
Regarding the expansion of the water network, he made it known that in 2023 three new municipalities were integrated into the public network, namely Cangandala, Quela and Marimba, with new locations expected soon, remembering that the same investments are being made in the field of energy , to increase coverage from four to 14 municipalities.
He made it known that, in the municipality of Malanje, 36 thousand people began to benefit from electricity in the year about to end, after the installation of 16 transformation stations (PT’s) in several neighborhoods of the district, whose electrification process of all neighborhoods will extend in 2024.
Marcos Nhunga characterized 2023 as a difficult year, as the economy did not recover as expected, however, he highlighted the measures that the Executive was taking, allowing the implementation of projects that are changing the lives of the population.
Depending on the aforementioned economic context, of the 15 billion foreseen in the OGE/2023 of the province of Malanje, only three billion was allocated, corresponding to 33 percent.
PIIM bug fixes
During his intervention, the governor highlighted the ongoing actions, with a view to correcting the flaws in the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM), and of the 133 projects registered for the region, only 53 have been completed and the rest are paralyzed.
He said that this framework does not satisfy the province, which is why he promised to hold non-compliant companies accountable.
Fighting poverty changes paradigm
Regarding the Integrated Plan for Local Development and Combating Poverty (PIDLCP), he stressed that the focus will be on income-generating activities such as agriculture, livestock and fishing, without neglecting primary health care, water and sanitation, with a view to removing families in vulnerable situations.
The year-end greetings ceremony was attended by provincial delegates and directors, municipal administrators, deputies to the National Assembly, political party officials, traditional and religious authorities and guests.
