Africa-Press – Angola. The “King” of Angolan music, Elias Dya Kimuezo, was honored this Tuesday, in Luanda, on the occasion of his 88th birthday, marked (2 January).
The tribute was an initiative by musician Fiel Constantino “Didi”, in coordination with other artists, family and friends of the king.
It included a celebratory lunch and was attended by the MPLA Secretary for Foreign Relations, Manuel Augusto, and the municipal administrator of Kilamba Kiaxi, Naulila André, the latter who presented a photographic painting as recognition of the municipality.
The event, held at the King’s residence, located in the Nova Vida Project, included the performance of several songs by Elias Dya Kimuezo.
The author of “Pangue Iami” and “Kalumba” was born on January 2, 1936, in Bairro Marçal, in Luanda.
Named Elias José Francisco, he began his artistic career in 1950, in the group “Ginásio”, as a composer. In 1956, he appeared as an interpreter and drummer, in the group Kizomba, in the municipality of Sambizanga.
At the time, Elias Dya Kimuezo founded the Dikundus group, made up of factory workers. He was the main vocalist.
Consecrated the King of Angolan music, by the Angola Information and Tourism Center, Elias Dya Kimuezo stands out for his natural way of singing in the national Kimbundu language.
