Africa-Press – Angola. The Municipal Directorate of Free Time, Youth and Sports of Cazenga launched this Friday, in Luanda, the project “Chess in Schools and Communities”, to promote the sport among student youth and residents of circumscription.
According to the head of Youth and Sports at Cazenga, André Soares, who spoke during the event, the project arises from the need to promote the learning of this sport even in primary education, due to the importance of it.
He explained that the management is working to have people with the capacity to carry out the implementation of the modality in educational institutions at a good pace.
“The project will last four months, with the participation of a thousand students from initiation to the first cycle. In this way, identify students in Cazenga and children with the potential to practice this sport and later be accompanied by the federation for future competitive tournaments”, he said.
He informed that after the launch phase, municipal championships will be held to promote the sport in communities.
The project will cover all educational schools, from initiation to the first cycle, with 30 boards for games and 12 technicians, with the support of Escola Forminguinha do Cazenga for the massification of chess in the municipality.
André Soares recognized, however, that as it is a low-cost modality, all children of different ages, social classes and special needs can be part of a chess class or club.
He added that school chess programs offer great social, emotional and academic opportunities for students in general, and help to develop creativity, problem-solving skills, as well as stimulating logical reasoning, concentration and patience.
Furthermore, he said, it exercises the mind, increases academic performance, improves memory, as well as the ability to concentrate and critical thinking.
He said, in turn, that it helps in the socialization process, favoring their integration into school environments.
“It is a game that encourages intellectual and recreational aspects, at the same time that it promotes socialization and respect for legally established norms”, he highlighted.
The launch event was attended by the administrator of the urban district of Hoji-Ya-Henda, Josefa Soloche and the municipal director of education of Cazenga, Armindo Santiago Domingos, among others.
