Africa-Press – Angola. The National Football Team’s lack of goal opportunities in preparation for the African Cup of Nations (CAN’2023), taking place from January 13th to February 11th this year, in Côte d’Ivoire , was a concern expressed by commentator Paulo Tomás.

In evaluating the Angolan team’s training in Portugal, and the last draw (0-0), in a friendly game, in Dubai (UAE), against the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Radio 5 analyst stated that the players must get used to scoring goals in any competition, even starting in preparation matches.

“I notice that we are divorced with the opposing goals, since the match against Madagascar, then came Cape Verde, Mauritius and now the DRC. Four games without scoring goals is complicated if we take into account that habit makes a monk. The more goals you score during the preparation games, the better rapport and familiarity with the goal you will have,” he said.

He added that preparation does not compromise, especially because they faced a team that in theoretical terms is better positioned in the ranking and has other objectives in relation to Angola, for this CAN.

“If we take into account the moment of the selection, what they want, and, perhaps in the short trajectory, then it is worrying, as it is the fourth game without scoring a goal. In our opinion, 11 approved in defensive terms, but in offensive terms it was rejected”, he stressed.

Still in preparation, the Palancas Negras (name of the national team) will return to the scene next Wednesday (10), when they face a similar team from Bahrain, in what will be the last and final test before their debut at CAN’2023, against Algeria, on the 15th, at 9pm, in Bouaké.

For this CAN, which should take place in 2023, Angola is in group D with Algeria, Burkina Faso and Mauritania.
