Africa-Press – Angola. Seventy thousand and 719 heads of cattle were vaccinated against symptomatic anthrax and nodular dermatitis, during the year 2023, in five municipalities in Namibe, representing an increase of 28,719 immunized animals, compared to the previous period.

This Monday, the head of the Institute of Veterinary Services (ISV) of Namibe, Luís Paulo Bié, recalled that in 2022 42 thousand cattle were vaccinated.

Last year’s vaccination campaign included 12 brigades, distributed across the municipalities of Moçâmedes, Bibala, Virei, Tômbwa and Camucuio.

He also assured that, after the logistical conditions and vaccination doses have been created at provincial level, the opening of the cattle vaccination campaign will take place in the first fortnight of February of the current year, with the forecast of vaccinating 250 thousand heads.

On the other hand, the source reported the existence of a lot of sale of uninspected meat and outside the formal circuit, a fact that should deserve the attention of consumers, avoiding the purchase of animal derivatives anywhere.

He warned that the consumption of meat from animals not inspected by the veterinary service can cause various illnesses, such as pulmonary tuberculosis, among others.

He said that, during the year just ended, 47 infractions were recorded, such as the sale of products of animal origin in inappropriate places and tax evasion.

According to the source, during the period in question, 23,414 pets were also vaccinated against rabies, including 21,212 dogs, 312 cats and 215 monkeys. In 2022, four thousand and 865 of these animals were registered.

On the other hand, the head of the Institute of Veterinary Services (ISV) of Namibe, Luís Paulo Bié, said that, in 2023, 72 dog bites were recorded, which resulted in one case of human rabies.
