Africa-Press – Angola. The permanent representatives of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries accredited to the United Nations were informed, this Tuesday, in New York (USA), about the political and security situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC ), with emphasis on the general elections of December 2023.

According to a press release, the group’s monthly meeting was chaired by Angola’s permanent representative, ambassador Francisco da Cruz.

The diplomats also learned about the plan to disengage MONUSCO forces, aiming at the withdrawal from the DRC, the deployment of SADC forces in Congolese territory, as well as regional efforts to guarantee peace, stability and sustainable development in that country.

The report presented by the permanent representative of the DRC, Ambassador Zenon Mukomgo Ngay, was appreciated by his peers, who took the opportunity to congratulate the Government and people of the DRC for the commendable conduct of the elections, which took place in an atmosphere of calm and unity.
