Africa-Press – Angola. The remains of Angolan nationalist Rui Mingas arrived, in the early hours of this Thursday, in Luanda, from Portugal, where he died last Thursday (4th), victim of illness.

At 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, the body of the co-author of the National Anthem was received at the Cargo Terminal, initially, by family and friends, in an atmosphere of emotions and tears.

Immediately, and in line with the official funeral program, the urn with the mortal remains of this icon of Angolan culture followed by car procession to the Army’s wake room (former RI20).

The beginning of the funeral ceremony is scheduled for the afternoon, with emphasis on tributes from the National Assembly, the MPLA, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Youth and Sports and Culture and Tourism.

On Friday, before the urn is lowered into the Alto das Cruzes Cemetery, a Funeral Mass will be held at the Igreja do Carmo, in downtown Luanda.

Condolences to the family will also be presented in the Army wake room (formerly RI20).

Rui Alberto Vieira Dias Rodrigues Mingas was an Angolan singer, composer, diplomat, businessman, sportsman and politician.

He was co-author of the National Anthem (“Angola Avante”), with the writer and jurist Manuel Rui Monteiro.

Throughout his professional career, Rui Mingas (died at 84 years of age) was a deputy of the MPLA Parliamentary Group, secretary with the status of Minister of Sports and ambassador of Angola to Portugal.

On July 26, 1995, he was awarded the degree of Grand Cross of the Order of Infante D. Henrique, of Portugal. In 2002, he formed a business association with Paulo Múrias and the “Fundação Minerva-Cultura-Ensino e Investigação Científica”.
