Africa-Press – Angola. The lack of material and a performance room equipped for the exhibition of literary, recording, phonographic, dance and performing arts works are the main difficulties faced by artists in the municipality of Cuvango, province of Huíla, which affects the development of local culture.
The concerns were expressed during a consultation meeting with arts and culture makers in the municipality, this Wednesday, which was attended by at least 36 workers in the area.
Currently, to carry out activities of this kind, the municipality only has a recreational club with capacity for more than a thousand occupants, as well as football fields for this purpose as well.
For musician Eúde Kativa, the lack of adequate spaces and technical means to carry out shows has been an impasse for the promotion of culture at municipal level and impedes the growth of local artists.
He mentioned that another weakness is the lack of promoters of large events, as well as producers, as the only director they have in the municipality is unable to do so, forcing artists to resort to other municipalities or the capital of the provinces to record songs..
Domingos Ndala, musician who won the provincial phase of Variante 2023, said that those involved in arts and culture need better incentives in their activities so that they can feel more valued and start earning income for the work they do.
Another artist, Franklin Gregório, asked the local administration to closely monitor the makers and promote activities that honor artists who do their best to disseminate their talent, but still lack further recognition.
In turn, the municipal administrator of Cuvango, Luís Marcelo, recognized the “crucial” role played by artists in disseminating art and culture in different forms of know-how in the municipality and the province.
He stated that each one, in their artistic area to their own extent, has been able to adequately represent the municipality in the field of music, visual arts, dance, theater, among other areas as a symbol of Angolan identity.
He highlighted that despite the difficulties faced by artists, both amateurs and professionals, it has been possible to offer moments of joy and leisure to art lovers, which is why they have contributed to the development of local culture, as well as tourism promotion.
It reinforced the Government’s commitment to working to gradually resolve the main concerns that the class faces, in order to increasingly value the class.
The municipality of Cuvango, which is 356 kilometers east of the city of Lubango, province of Huíla, has an estimated population of 106 thousand 421 inhabitants.
