Africa-Press – Angola. More than three billion kwanzas were collected from January to December 2023, by the Port Company of Soyo, in the province of Zaire, more than one billion kwanzas compared to the same period in 2022.

The information was provided this Friday, in Soyo, by the president of the Board of Directors of the Port of Soyo, Fernando Dias, when taking stock of the activities carried out by his institution during the past year.

According to the PCA, the revenue collected results from infrastructure concession services, loading and unloading of goods, with emphasis on companies in the oil sector.

Fernando Dias said that, during the period under analysis, the institution recorded the entry and exit of 3,425 medium and large ships, with 222,648.58 tons of gross and containerized cargo being handled, containing various goods.

Regarding the exported merchandise, the source said that it was destined for countries such as Singapore, China, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Congo Brazzaville and Togo, while the import involved ships from the United States of America, the United Kingdom , South Africa, China and Singapore.

Regarding the embarkation and disembarkation of passengers at the aforementioned maritime terminal, the president of the Board of Directors of Empresa Portuária do Soyo, said that 93,829 movements of people were recorded, an increase of around 67.80 percent compared to the previous period of 2022.

Company invests in diversifying sources of revenue collection

For the current financial year, Empresa Portuária do Soyo intends to diversify and increase revenue collection sources, through partnerships with the private and public-private sectors.

To achieve this goal, he said, the institution he directs will focus on granting more areas of port control, as well as recovering some existing port infrastructure in the region, with emphasis on the port of Nóqui and the river station of Kimbumba. , in the municipality of Soyo.

“We are in contact with many businesspeople, both national and foreign, who want to invest in our region”, he highlighted.

The manager informed that the intention is to build a pier and other support infrastructure at the Kimbumba river station, to put an end to the disorderly movement of artisanal means that is seen at that river terminal.

Regarding the Port of Nóqui, Fernando Dias said that the Executive, through presidential decree no 262/23, of October 26, authorized the opening of a simplified contracting procedure for the construction of a new terminal, budgeted at 90 million dollars.

The value also includes the construction of support infrastructures such as warehouses and offices.

He added that the Port of Nóqui will serve as a strategic corridor to boost the socio-economic development of the region and encourage commercial transactions between Angola and DRC.
