Africa-Press – Angola. A police operation, called “Cleanup”, has been underway since last weekend, in the municipality of Cambulo, Lunda-Norte province, aiming to reinforce the fight against diamond mining hotspots in that district.
The information was provided Tuesday, in Dundo, by the spokesperson for the National Police in Lunda-Norte, Domingos Muanafumo, highlighting that since the beginning of the operation, 404 miners have been arrested, all from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
He added that the citizens involved, in addition to carrying out the activity illegally, entered the national territory illegally and have already been expelled from the country.
He reported that in recent years, there has been a growing wave of invasion by several miners into concession areas, a fact that has forced redoubled efforts from defense and security bodies.
He appealed to the population to continue collaborating with defense and security bodies, denouncing mining hotspots.
