Bengo Provincial Library inoperative for more than four years

Africa-Press – Angola. The Bengo provincial library has been inoperative for more than four years, due to the intense rains that have been recorded in the region recently and which have degraded the infrastructure.

Located in the Açucareira area, the library is partially dilapidated (the roof has been replaced), due to the accumulation of water, rubbish and lack of cleaning inside.

This situation caused the destruction of two thousand books, of the approximately 6,500 that existed, the head of the library, Rita Francisco Bamba.

He mentioned that at the end of 2022 work began on exchanging sheets to replace the ceiling, but despite this intervention the situation, inside, remains the same, he highlighted.

Opened in 2014, the library served more than 400 visitors monthly, including students and public employees from Bengo and the municipalities of Cacuaco and Viana (Luanda).

At provincial level, he said, the six municipalities have libraries that also do not function and have been transformed into municipal offices.

He asked legal entities to work towards recovering and getting these institutions up and running, in order to support students.
