Africa-Press – Angola. Municipal and communal administrators, traditional, religious and student authorities from Cuanhama, Cunene province, were provided with knowledge on the process of the General Population and Housing Census (RGPH), scheduled for July 2024, this Thursday.

The RGPH-2024 awareness seminar, promoted by the National Statistics Institute (INE), aimed to mobilize citizens about the need to collaborate with census agents who will be in the field collecting data.

During the training, the provincial coordinator of the Census Technical Group in Cunene, José Jacinto, said that, as part of the preparation of the Census, a set of activities are underway to raise awareness among the population.

He made it known that the objective is to mobilize, in a comprehensive way, communities, so that when the Census begins (June 19th), they know how to collaborate with enumerators in delivering the information requested.

He said that the information that will be collected will allow the Government to know “how many there are, where we live and how we live”, to better plan and distribute the country’s wealth to all Angolans.

He made it known that data collection will last 30 days, to facilitate counting the characterization of the population, survey of the housing stock and the typification of habitability conditions.

He recalled that cartographic updating is currently taking place across the entire census network in Cunene, for the formation of census sections that have an average of 90 homes, both in urban and rural areas.

This work, he explained, will guarantee the existence of sections of uniform size throughout the national territory for better planning, organizing and properly implementing the key tasks of the census process, such as estimating quality and materials for the census.

The municipal administrator of Cuanhama, José Kalomo, valued INE’s initiative in training and awakening society to provide support to census takers for the success of the population and housing census.

He said that it is important for everyone to be informed, especially traditional authorities who have the responsibility of dealing with the majority of rural communities, for their involvement and collaboration in the delivery of data.

José Kalomo said that they will form groups in neighborhoods and localities, to pass on the message about the advantages of the census, which will allow the Executive to align policies aimed at improving the social conditions of citizens.

The cartographic updating work involves 10 teams made up of 55 technicians, including cartographic agents and drivers, with the support of 10 vehicles and 10 motorbikes.

The second General Population and Housing Census in Angola will allow us to know precisely the number of inhabitants in the country, how many men, women, children and elderly people, where they live and how they live.

With this information, the country will be able to better plan the distribution of essential services to all Angolans.
