Africa-Press – Angola. The president of the National Assembly (AN), Carolina Cerqueira, expressed regret over the death of the Namibian Head of State, Hage Geingob, which occurred this Sunday, victim of illness.
In a message of condolence, Carolina Cerqueira considered Hage Gaingobe as a patriot who, from a very early age, was engaged in the struggle for the liberation of the African people, in general, and the Namibian people, in particular.
“President Geingob was tireless in his contribution to building a modern Namibia, committed to the cause of sustainable development and the promotion of good governance at national and international level.
He highlighted, among his countless achievements, the decisive role he played in the process of creating the future SADC Parliament.
In light of the unfortunate event, Carolina Cerqueira extends her deepest condolences to the bereaved family and Namibians.
“I am sure that the Namibian nation will be able to rise again to overcome this difficult moment of mourning and pain”, reads the message.
Geingob was admitted to Lady Pohama Hospital, in the Namibian capital, Windhoek, after being diagnosed with cancer.
Geingob was the third President of Namibia, a country that became independent in the 1990s, when it was no longer politically controlled by South Africa.
Prime Minister of Namibia twice (1990-2002 and 2012-2015, Geingob came to power in March 2015, before being re-elected in 2019.
