Africa-Press – Angola. The governor of Zaire, Adriano Mendes de Carvalho, recommended this Tuesday, in Mbanza Kongo, the improvement of tax revenue collection mechanisms in the municipality of Nzeto, through taxation of fishing activities.

According to the governor, who was speaking at the inauguration of the new administrator of the aforementioned fishing municipality, Ketuzeyiko Domingos Pinda, the fishing sector in Nzeto, if well explored, can contribute to increasing local revenues.

“This branch of activity can serve as an important source of revenue collection, which can be used to increase and improve basic social services for citizens.

Adriano Mendes de Carvalho lamented the fact that Nzeto was losing huge volumes of revenue, due to the lack of viable procedures for collecting taxes on artisanal fishing activities.

“The municipality needs to raise revenue. We cannot continue to watch the same scenario, everyone takes fish from the sea and no one pays absolutely anything”, she stressed.

The governor also recommended improving hygiene conditions in the place where fish has been sold by artisanal shipowners, near the sea coast of the fishing village of Nzeto.

The municipality has around 12 artisanal fishing cooperatives, which benefited from incentives to promote their activities, through different programs designed by the Angolan Executive.

The sea coast of the province of Zaire, rich in a variety of fish species, covers 250 kilometers, covering the municipalities of Nzeto, Tomboco and Soyo.
