Africa-Press – Angola. The traditional authorities of the municipality of Soyo, Zaire province, defended, this Friday, the reinforcement of measures to combat illegal immigration in the region, as it represents a danger to national sovereignty.

Regarding the recent increase in the number of illegal immigrants in the municipality, the sobas requested the reinforcement of security on the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), considered the main entry point for foreigners into the locality.

According to the governor of Mbenza (Pedra do Feitiço commune), António João, there are frequent cases of rape on the river border by immigrants from the DRC and beyond.

“The ease with which foreign citizens enter Soyo illegally leads us to conclude that the river border is quite vulnerable, as immigrants cross the river at night and remain hidden in the forests, before reaching the municipal headquarters”, he denounced.

The old man suspects that there is a network that helps this phenomenon, from the DRC, with ramifications throughout the national territory, associated with fuel smuggling, human trafficking, tax evasion, among other cross-border crimes.

In turn, the head of the Panga-T neighborhood, municipal seat of Soyo, Francisco Angelina, said that this phenomenon has caused an increase in violent crime in the locality, the indiscriminate exploitation of forestry and fauna resources, as well as the proliferation of sects religious, the latter having negative influences on the habits and customs of the population.

Meanwhile, 149 DRC citizens were detained, in the last three days, by the Provincial Command of the National Police, for illegal entry into the country.

According to a note sent, more than three thousand liters of diesel were seized in the same period, due to alleged smuggling.

The municipality of Soyo, located in the extreme northwest of Zaire, has an estimated population of more than 200 thousand inhabitants, spread across the municipalities of Pedra do Feitiço, Sumba, Mangue Grande, Quêlo and Sede.
