Africa-Press – Angola. The inhabitants of the city of Luena, Moxico province, once again benefited from the water supply, a week after the destruction of the main water transport pipeline, as a result of heavy rains in the region.
The heavy rains that have been recorded in the region have led to the reopening of a ravine along the route between the Lumeje River catchment and the Luena Water Treatment Station (ETA), destroying the liquid transport channel.
The phenomenon forced the mobilization of men and machines to restore the canal, measuring around 30 meters, and replenishing the liquid for the more than 450,000 inhabitants who live in the capital of the province of Moxico, after being deprived of the liquid for seven days.
The Provincial Water and Sanitation Company in Moxico, in operation since 2017, controls seven thousand and 400 household connections in the city of Luena, as part of the implementation of the Development Project (PDISA I), benefiting the neighborhoods Nzaji, Tchifuchi, Mandembwe, Youth Social, Passa – Fome, Sinai Velho, Kwenha, Santa Rosa and Vila Luso.
At this time, the connection phase of (PDISA II) is taking place, expected to end this year, which in total will have over 15 thousand new connections, increasing the water supply rate to Luena to 70 percent, compared to the current 41.
EPAS has two Water Treatment Stations (ETA), in the Social da Juventude and Tchifuchi neighborhoods, with the capacity to produce and distribute 800 thousand liters of the precious liquid per hour.
