Africa-Press – Angola. The submission of applications for the second edition of the ‘Prémio Catoca de Jornalismo’, which began this Wednesday, will take place until the 28th of March this year, throughout the national territory, the organization announced in Luanda of the prize.

The respective prize is valued at 20 million and 500 thousand kwanzas, which will be divided into seven categories, with five million kwanzas for the ‘Catoca Journalism Grand Prize’, three million for the ‘East Journalist Award’, two million and 500 thousand for ‘Reporting Award’ and equal value for the categories ‘Interview Award’, ‘Journalism Award in National Language’, ‘Image Award’ and ‘Best Speaker Award’, respectively.

Speaking at a press conference, the president of the jury, Teixeira Cândido, highlighted that works published from January 2023 to March 28, 2024, in any media outlet, can compete for this edition.

He called for the need to comply with ethical aspects in the pieces, due to the fact that applications had been rejected in the previous edition, for violating the principles of adversarial proceedings.

“I remember that, in the last edition, a journalist who had presented in a report people who were dedicated to extorting through digital media, but did not listen to the same sources, a fact that violates the principle of contradiction”, he recalled.

In turn, Catoca’s management advisor for communication and image, Pedro Capumba, said that the award comes as recognition of the importance and role of the activity carried out by journalists, who put all their knowledge to inform, educate and entertain.

He recalled that the award aims to encourage professionals who stand out annually, with the aim of encouraging journalistic work, striving for quality, rigor and the professionals’ sense of opportunity.

He highlighted that the economic and international context imposed many restrictions, but recognizing the importance of the award, the company’s management maintained this competition as a way of recognizing the work carried out by journalists, with the winners being announced at a gala to take place in the second half of April 2024.

Promoted by Sociedade Mineira de Catoca, as part of its social responsibility, the award also aims to encourage journalistic work, rewarding the regularity, quality, creativity and work opportunities of professionals who stand out throughout the year.

In the last edition, journalists Quintas Benjamim and Silvina Lembeno won the trophy, in the Interview category.
