Africa-Press – Angola. The governor of Cuanza- Norte, João Diogo Gaspar, urged (Wednesday), the National Police personnel to act in ways that promote a feeling of security, in order to gain the trust of citizens whenever they see their threatened rights.
When intervening in the provincial act commemorating the 48th anniversary of the institutionalization of the Angolan National Police, João Diogo Gaspar defended a dignified stance on the part of public order agents, who are expected to provide instructive and guiding action, before moving on to other forms of repression coercive.
The government official also called for permanent awareness among citizens in order to become true defenders of legality and the preservation of public assets, denouncing all those who opt for acts of vandalism.
He expressed the commitment of the Provincial Government of Cuanza-Norte to guarantee continuous moral and material support to the National Police so that it can fully fulfill its mission of guaranteeing peace, security and public order.
For his part, the provincial commander and Interior delegate in Cuanza-Norte, José Fernandes, guaranteed the corporation’s commitment to promoting training actions aimed at increasing discipline in the corporation.
He highlighted the contribution of citizens in reporting crimes and of actors, a factor that has contributed to increasing the results of police action.
However, José Fernandes considered the number of minors in conflict with the law in the province to be worrying, a reality that will require extensive work with families to reverse the situation.
José Fernandes said, on the other hand, that the corporation will reinforce actions to combat the vandalization of public property, with the reinforcement of proximity policing measures, to hold perpetrators accountable.
Data from the Provincial Command of the National Police indicate that, during 2023, the corporation recorded 2,600 crimes of a diverse nature, with an increase of 357 compared to 2022, which resulted in the arrest of 1,764 citizens (+390), accused of involvement in the authorship of the same.
Regarding road traffic, the province recorded 437 (+68) road accidents, resulting in 133 deaths (+68), 633 (+220) injuries and material damage valued at more than 184 million kwanzas.
Held in the town of Carianga (7 kilometers from Ndalatando) under the motto “National Police 48 years guaranteeing public security”, the event was marked by the enlistment of more than 50 officers in the category of National Police officers, for cultural and parade of troops on parade.
The event presided over by the governor, João Diogo Gaspar, was attended by members of the Provincial Government, high-ranking officials from the National Police and the Armed Forces.
