Africa-Press – Angola. The director of the Provincial Office of Social Action, Family and Gender Equality, Angelina Camueje, reaffirmed today, in this city, the government’s commitment to combating discrimination among citizens, with a view to promoting social equality and sustainable development.
This measure, he highlighted, involves the materialization of the various assumptions of the Basic Laws of Social Protection, Domestic Violence and other standards that aim to ban discriminatory attitudes, especially against people with disabilities and victims of domestic violence.
The person responsible expressed this willingness at the opening of an awareness campaign against social discrimination, within the scope of World Zero Discrimination Day, which is celebrated today, and which marked the opening of March-Women’s Day.
He made it known that, based on compliance with the Basic Social Protection Law, the Office he heads has provided medical, food and other assistance to people in vulnerable situations, with emphasis on people with disabilities and albinism.
On the other hand, Angelina Camueje assured that the government of Malanje has worked hard in the fight against ignorance and beliefs that fuel discrimination, having urged civil society to join these efforts in favor of respect for the differences between people.
Zero Discrimination Day is celebrated annually on March 1st, with the aim of raising awareness among citizens about safeguarding the rights of all people and eliminating discriminatory acts.
The date was established in 2013 by the United Nations, based on the need to protect human rights, taking into account gender, age, creed, sexual orientation, illness, disability, ethnicity or nationality.
