Africa-Press – Angola. The provincial commander of the National Police in Lunda-Norte, Gerson Miguel, reiterated Wednesday that the body will be relentless in preventing and combating outbreaks of diamond mining and fuel smuggling, by encouraging illegal immigration.
Speaking at the provincial event in reference to the 48th anniversary of the National Police, Gerson Miguel, said that the body will adopt new tactics, involving communities, in the dismantling of groups dedicated to diamond mining and fuel smuggling.
He asked for the collaboration of traditional authorities in reporting citizens who assist illegal immigration by accommodating immigrants, especially from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), in their homes, posing as family members.
He made it known that in 2023, the Police seized 3,210 diamond stones of various carats, 7,650 US dollars and another 214,000 kwanzas, in the possession of alleged illegal traffickers.
In the same period, he continued, 75 thousand and 575 liters of diesel and 13 thousand and 645 liters of gasoline were seized, for smuggling, whose destination was the DRC.
He added that 1,588 drug plants (Liamba) were also seized, as well as 30,155 immigrants from the DRC detained and expatriated for violating the border.
In relation to public security, the officer considered calm, highlighting the record of 1,837 various crimes, of which 1,657 were resolved, with the arrest of 2,430 citizens, for an average of 5 crimes/day.
He highlighted the record of 729 road accidents that resulted in 137 deaths and 865 injuries.
On the other hand, it reaffirmed the corporation’s commitment to the country, in guaranteeing the stability of democratic legality, maintenance of public order and tranquility, respect for the fundamental rights and freedoms of citizens, criminal prevention, based on the integrated system of community participation.
He said that the National Police will continue to monitor social dynamics, as a proximity agent and committed to resolving the causes of crime, through car patrols, on foot and low visibility actions, reinforcing border protection to combat illegal immigration , fuel smuggling and tax evasion.
