Africa-Press – Angola. The book of short stories “Imitation of Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir”, by Angolan writer João Melo, has been translated into Arabic, a version to be published in Tunisia soon.
According to a note distributed this Friday, the work will be released by Maison Du Livre, with translation by Abdeljelil Larbi, a Tunisian based in Lisbon, where he is a professor at Universidade Nova.
Abdeljelil Larbi is also the author of a recent Portuguese-Arabic dictionary, in addition to having translated “Os Lusíadas”, one of the most important works of Portuguese-language literature by Luís Camões.
Imitation by Sartre & Simone de Beauvoir, launched in 1998, brings together ten stories of ordinary people, stories of people who meet and, above all, find themselves at odds, most of the time in confrontation with the reality that is suddenly left for them to do. sense.
About the author
João Melo was born in Luanda in 1955 and studied Law in Coimbra and Luanda.
He graduated in Social Communication and completed a master’s degree in Communication and Culture in Rio de Janeiro. She directed several Angolan media outlets, both state and private.
He is a founding member of the Union of Angolan Writers (UEA), where he held various positions in the respective corporate bodies, such as general secretary, president of the Steering Committee and president of the Supervisory Board.
Winner of the 2009 National Culture Prize for his literary work as a whole, João Melo is usually published in Angola and Portugal, but has also published books in Brazil, Italy and Cuba.
He also has poems and short stories published in various anthologies, magazines and literary websites in English, French, German, Arabic and Mandarin.
One of his short stories – “My first million dollars” – was published in English on the Nigerian website Olongo África, translated by the American Cliff E. Landers, a regular translator of several Brazilian writers.
“Death is always punctual” is another short story by João Melo, also translated by Landers.
His vast work includes, among other titles, “Limits & Redundancies”, “O Caçador de Nuvens”, “Canção do Nosso Tempo”, “Jornalismo e Política”, “Poems Angolanos”, “Tanto Amor”, “Fabulema” and “Definition”.
