Africa-Press – Angola. The provincial secretary of the MPLA in Malanje, Marcos Nhunga, reiterated Saturday, the call for the active participation of women in boosting the agricultural and livestock sector, aiming to combat hunger and poverty within families.

The politician, who was speaking at a mass event to open the March-Women’s Day of the OMA, the MPLA’s women’s organization, said that depending on the economic limitations that the country is going through and which affect families, women must be mobilized and engaged in the activity agriculture to obtain income and food.

He stated that the MPLA in the province has been creating incentive policies for this segment of society in the areas of agriculture, livestock and fisheries, within the scope of the Integrated Program for Local Development and Combating Poverty (PIDLCP), carried out by the government.

He also highlighted the recent approval of an asphalting plan for municipal headquarters, the implementation of which will contribute to an increase in agricultural production and the flow of surpluses from cultivation areas to consumption centers, a measure that also contributes to curbing poverty..

On the other hand, the politician recognized the role played by women throughout the country’s historical journey, from hiding, through the struggle for national liberation, achieving peace and reconciliation, without neglecting their role in rescuing moral values.

Marcos Nhunga also expressed the party’s continued commitment to the technical-professional training of young women, in order to encourage self-employment and income generation among them.

In turn, the provincial secretary of OMA in Malanje, Anita Paulo, highlighted the organization’s commitment to promoting women’s rights and duties, defending gender equality and their empowerment in different areas of life.

Despite this, he said that much remains to be done to combat gender discrimination, which still prevails in many segments of society.

The opening act of Jornada Março-Mulher was attended by OMA activists, friends and supporters and marked the celebrations of March 2, Angolan women’s day.
