Africa-Press – Angola. The executive secretary of the National Union of Workers – Trade Union Confederation (UNTA-CS) in Huambo, Adriano dos Santos, defended, this Wednesday, greater scope in the implementation of isolation subsidies, without looking at the classification of municipalities.
Speaking at the IV ordinary meeting of the General Council of the Union of Education, Culture, Sports and Communication Workers in Huambo, affiliated to UNTA-CS, he said it was unnecessary for the package of incentives for housing and installation rent to only cover municipalities of the type C and D, while there are regions of type A and B with remote areas and without basic social services.
The trade unionist understands that, in addition to the scope, it is imperative to review the aforementioned subsidy, taking into account the current difficult situation, combined with inflation, that many workers find themselves in, given the reduced purchasing capacity of members.
This is an incentive package, with an additional 30 percent on the base salary, approved by the Angolan Government in February 2023, which is scheduled to come into force this year, with the aim of mitigating the difficulties of those working in remote areas, devoid of essential goods and services.
Adriano dos Santos said that the meeting took place in an atmosphere of tension, judging by the demands made by the country’s trade unions, which are planning to carry out a general strike.
He added that of the four dividing points in the list of demands, namely the public service salary review, increase in the isolation allowance, the national minimum wage and the reduction of the Labor Income Tax (IRT), none found consensus.
Therefore, he highlighted, UNTA-CS and its union partners are united in action, as a more consensual way to improve dialogue with the Angolan Executive, with a view to improving the social well-being of workers.
In this context, he made it known that next Saturday (9) a mega general assembly of workers will be held in the province of Luanda, capital of the country, to analyze the situation of the strike, the entry into force of which and other details will be announced on the 14th of this month. month.
IV ordinary meeting of the General Council of the Union of Education, Culture, Sports and Communication Workers of Huambo, analyzed, among others, the balance sheet and accounts report of the organization, the retired committee and the fiscal council for 2023, in addition to providing perspective and approve this year’s actions.
