Africa-Press – Angola. The Art Sem Letra agency present, in the auditorium of the Instituto Guimarães Rosa (former Casa de Cultura Brasil-Angola), the poetry and performance show, entitled “Chiamaka – A História Não Pode Ser a Same ”.

According to the production director of Art Sem Letra, Émerson da Silva, the show is part of the “Mulheres D’Palavras” project, which seeks to present issues about gender and quality maternal health, in a context in which maternal mortality is a problem public health in Angola.

“We are going to present the show with the aim of saluting the ‘Women’s March’ and drawing more attention from Angolan society to an issue that continues to afflict women”, he said.

Émerson da Silva explained that Chiamaka represents all women who, on a daily basis, strive to improve themselves, despite the challenges imposed by society.

Chiamaka, he continued, is a show where movement and orality merge to transmit and vindicate gender violence within the domestic context of families.

The activity will feature emerging artists, namely Eliane Silva, Elisabeth Pascoal and Pedro Chivole. The script is by Luwé André and Irene A’mosi, while the stage direction is the responsibility of Tomalunda Pedro.

The play tells the story of a woman with the same name, born in the 1980s. She followed her father’s machismo and oppression against her mother, while she and her brothers suffered in silence.

Chiamaka finds herself forced to respond to her family’s needs, subjecting herself to long hours of domestic work and learning to take care of her siblings, thus giving up her own childhood.

As time passes, Chiamaka becomes an adult, has a job and is well respected, but she continues to have some problems, as her family believes that she should be responsible for her needs, especially the financial ones.
