Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan justice ombudsman, Florbela Araújo, stressed this Thursday, in the town of Catete, municipality of Icolo e Bengo, that she will advocate legal entities, to hold companies that keep workers captive in captivity.

The ombudsman expressed this position at the end of a working visit to Icolo e Bengo, where she gave a lecture on the theme “The role of the ombudsman in defending women’s rights”.

During the event, the person in charge received complaints about alleged captivity of young Angolans in some companies belonging to alleged Chinese nationals.

According to the person responsible, the competent entities and criminal investigation bodies should visit these locations to verify the state of these companies and the conditions of the workers.

For the provider, employers must be sanctioned in accordance with the law in force in Angola.

“Before we heard that it was only in Luanda but we were informed that it was also here, so these are situations that concern us and we have it on our agenda to present to the competent authorities”, he said.

He said that he will also inform the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, because “no citizen can be held captive”.

By the way, the municipal directorates of Icolo and Bengo, Commerce and the National Authority for Economic Inspection and Food Safety (ANIESA), are considering the suspension of the work activity of a steel factory, called Zun Nguanguei, owned by alleged Chinese, who have approximately 100 young captives in deplorable conditions.

In an interview this Thursday, Osvaldo de Oliveira, director of Commerce and Bernardo Paulino of ANIESA, informed that they had fined the company to pedagogically raise awareness and recommend those responsible to improve the working conditions of young people, the majority of whom come from the province of Huila and devoid of any documentation.

The company Zun Nguanguei is located on Estrada Nacional 230, left bank towards Catete, about two kilometers before the municipal headquarters.

The provider’s working day also aimed to meet dozens of women living in the Kalumbuze de Baixo neighborhood, where Florbela Araújo registered several concerns, such as the lack of decent housing, drinking water, electricity, schools and health.

The Kalumbuze de Baixo neighborhood is about five kilometers from the municipal headquarters, Catete, and has just under 200 inhabitants, the majority of whom are elderly women who carry out agricultural activities.

The ombudsman’s visit aimed to publicize the role and function of the ombudsman in defending women’s rights.
