Africa-Press – Angola. The deputy director general of the Penitentiary Service, Inocêncio dos Anjos, defended, this Thursday, in Luanda, the strengthening of institutional relations to reduce overcrowding and excessive preventive detention in the country.

Speaking at the opening of the conference on “The role of justice administration bodies in the execution of custodial measures”, held in the municipality of Viana, the PN official said that this measure would make the execution of sentences faster and more concerted.

According to him, the problem of overcrowding and excessive preventive detention must be discussed by guarantee judges, public prosecutors, prison officers and other actors in the system, with a view to eradicating it.

The event was part of activities celebrating 45 years of the Penitentiary Service, to be celebrated on the 20th of this month.

The conference addressed topics such as “Powers of the prosecutor in relation to the implementation of the figure of the guarantee judge in the execution of deprivation of liberty measures” and “Excessive preventive detention/overcrowding in penitentiary establishments”.

“The lawyer’s role in defending the rights, freedoms and guarantees of citizens deprived of liberty” and “The role of the guarantee judge in the application of deprivation of liberty measures” were other topics analyzed at the meeting.
