Africa-Press – Angola. The Executive will invest 95 billion kwanzas in the Management Plan of the municipality of Mbanza Kongo, Zaire province, said this Thursday in Luanda, the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Filipe Zau.
According to the minister, who was speaking on the sidelines of the 2nd Ordinary Session of the National Multisectoral Commission for the Safeguarding of World Cultural Heritage, guided by the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, the plan proposes to turn Mbanza Kongo into a hub of research and tourist attraction of national, regional and international reference, taking into account the dimension of the exceptional universal value of heritage and places of memory recognized by UNESCO.
He added that the aforementioned plan also foresees the organization of scientific meetings with researchers from different parts of the world to promote the exchange of knowledge and define strategies for disseminating the history of the Kingdom of Kongo and the diaspora.
Filipe Zau said that the plan will encourage young people to learn ancestral techniques in the field of arts and gastronomy for the benefit of local communities, as part of the process of conservation, protection and appreciation of material heritage.
The aforementioned plan covers Mbanza Kongo’s tourism management strategy, which proposes, among other objectives, to diversify the offer of tourist entertainment, develop the municipality’s territory, increase the supply of tourist accommodation infrastructure by more than 15%, expand the restaurant network by 20% and complementary services by 15%, as well as training and qualifying professionals in the tourism sector.
Created under Presidential Order No. 25/18, of March 5, and updated by Presidential Order No. 93/23 of May 3, the National Multisectoral Commission for the Safeguarding of World Cultural Heritage is responsible for promoting the implementation of conservation and the participatory management of cultural heritage, taking into account the need to adopt special measures to monitor valuable national cultural heritage.
