Africa-Press – Angola. One hundred and twenty employees of the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC), in the province of Benguela, were promoted to various grades this Thursday.

In the promotion act, guided by the provincial delegate of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), in Benguela, commissioner Aristófanes dos Santos, SIC officers were awarded the ranks of chief inspector, sub-inspector and third sub-chief.

When intervening, Commissioner Aristófanes dos Santos praised the work of criminal investigators in guaranteeing the safety of the population, and therefore urged them to continue focusing on improving their activity.

The Benguela provincial commander of the National Police also recognized that, despite the lack of working resources, SIC officers have carried out their mission selflessly.

Encouraging them not to weaken in their efforts in the face of possible criticism, the highest ranking member of the corporation in the province said he was convinced that the population of Benguela knows the importance of the work of this body.

“The criminal investigation has to act with dexterity, precision, because your offices are in alleys, streets, where there is no air conditioning”, he emphasized.

Likewise, he called on criminal investigation officers to have sufficient preparation in all matters and also to understand that the means of obtaining evidence must be legal.

Meanwhile, he gave guarantees that the Ministry of the Interior will continue to rely on the SIC, with the coordination of the National Police, and the Migration and Foreign Service (SME), the Civil Protection and Fire Service (SPCB) and the Penitentiary Service.

Criminal situation

The highest ranking member of the National Police in the province of Benguela conveyed the idea that the crime situation in the region is under control by the competent bodies.

However, he pointed out the existence of some factors that tend to influence crime, such as remote areas, the problem of public lighting and poverty.

“The criminal situation in our territory is not endemic, it is not a situation with many problems”, he stated, arguing that the problems that exist are typical of a developing society, as is the case in Benguela.
