Africa-Press – Angola. An Angolan delegation, headed by the Minister of State and head of the Military House of the President of the Republic, Francisco Furtado, has been in Washington DC since Wednesday (6), to mark the 5th anniversary of the signing of the memorandum of understanding, in the sector of Defense, between the Republic of Angola and the United States of America (USA).

The program of the visit (from April 6 to 9, 2022), made available by the Angolan Embassy in the USA, reserves a trip to Dreamport (a body part of the American Cybersecurity Command), the laying of a wreath at Arlington National Cemetery , as well as a meeting with the Deputy Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Paul Abbate.

At the Pentagon, the Angolan delegation will meet, according to the document that Jornal de Angola had access to, with the Undersecretary of Defense for African Affairs, Chidi Blyden, with whom he should discuss regional security issues.

The Minister of State and head of the Military House of the President of the Republic, Francisco Furtado, should also meet with the Undersecretary of Defense for Politics, Colin H. Kahl, with whom he will sign a joint declaration.

Also part of the delegation are the head of the General Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces, António Egídio de Sousa e Santos, the deputy director of the External Intelligence Service, Mário António da Costa.

The memorandum was signed on May 17, 2017, by the then Minister of Defense and current President of the Republic of Angola, João Lourenço, and by the Department of Defense of the United States of America, the former Secretary of Defense, General James Mattis.
