AGT clarifies aspects of the New Customs Tariff for economic agents

Africa-Press – Angola. Technicians from the General Tax Administration (AGT) clarified, this Tuesday, in Lobito (Benguela), to economic agents in the province, the main changes to the Customs Tariff that will come into force on the 3rd of April.

The exercise of analyzing procedures, payment of deferred fees, goods that were aggravated and reduced, among other aspects, were under analysis during the meeting.

According to the technician from the department of customs standards and procedures, Hiyavala Sambeny, the New Customs Tariff presents 354 changes in terms of codification.

He also informed that the new edition includes six thousand and seven tariff lines, of which two thousand and 190 are free of fees.

In turn, Wilbert Assunção, a technician from the same department, gave several examples about changes in taxes on goods with tax benefits for users.

According to him, merchandise that comes in a passenger’s luggage and does not exceed the value of one million kwanzas is considered personal use, as long as it meets the indicated criteria.

An example is the case of someone buying an engine for their car abroad and putting it in parts in several suitcases. “This merchandise is free of taxes”, she reinforced.

“If you bring jewelry in your luggage and its value does not exceed one million kwanzas, it is a personal item”, he explained.

On the other hand, goods worth one million and five hundred kwanzas and which do not meet the requirements for personal use will be charged two percent of their value.

In his intervention, the director of the fourth Tax Region, Francisco João, stated that the AGT, as an instrument of the State, is to guarantee the correct application of the Customs Tariff, with a view to achieving its objectives.

“AGT’s commitment remains here, at a local level, in a sectorized manner, to be able to sit down with operators”, he assured.

He invited business associations to be proactive and not reactive, in the sense of calling the institution to express their concerns when they consider it necessary.

Shipping agents, freight forwarders, brokers, importers and exporters and the Tax Police were present at the event.
