Africa-Press – Angola. The delegate for Justice and Human Rights in the province of Cunene, Aldovino Mwafelwa, advocated, this Thursday, in Ondjiva, the need for greater action by local committees in promoting and defending citizens’ rights.

On the sidelines of the meeting to exchange experiences between members of the human rights committees of the provinces of Cunene and Huíla, the person responsible said that these bodies must be more dynamic and proactive, in favor of safeguarding the dignity of the human person.

In this sense, he praised the holding of the meeting, stressing that it will allow gathering contributions that will contribute to boosting the actions of the local committees.

“The intention is to improve the mechanisms that can respond to promotion and prevention, within the scope of implementing the national strategy for human rights and their violation”, he highlighted.

According to the person responsible, issues related to human rights are transversal, hence the need for exchanges with public and private bodies, to reinforce work methodologies and techniques.

Without specifying numbers, he said that the province of Cunene, as a cross-border region, has recorded several cases of human rights violations, including human trafficking.

“There are numerous cases of human rights violations linked to human trafficking, which is why we have worked with the judicial bodies to forward the various complaints to their respective resolution,” he highlighted.

During the meeting, participants are debating topics related to the methods used to resolve cases of human rights violations and their action in the face of reports, grievances and claims, the governing diplomas of local committees, among others.
