Africa-Press – Angola. The UNITA Parliamentary Group will hold municipal meetings in the country’s 18 provinces from the 9th to the 14th of this month, its president, Liberty Chiaka, said this Monday in Luanda.

At a press conference, the deputy said that the activities will be focused on three main objectives, namely, carrying out solidarity actions, direct contact with citizens and listening to the population.

He explained that these actions take place within the framework of the Organic Law project for the effective institutionalization of local authorities, initiated by the party’s Parliamentary Group, made public on March 4th.

According to the parliamentarian, the aforementioned project, which was under public consultation until the 30th of last month, received valid contributions, so it is expected to be forwarded to the National Assembly soon.

“In any case, we congratulate ourselves. Whether it is an initiative from the Executive, or from the Parliamentary Group (from UNITA), no one can claim their paternity, the laws are made to serve Angola. We want to pass fair laws that have a direct impact on people’s quality of life, (and that) also allow the public administration to fully exercise its functions”, he stressed.

On March 27th, the Council of Ministers considered, for submission to the National Assembly, the Proposal for an Organic Law on the Institutionalization of Local Authorities.

The diploma aims to establish the rules on the institutionalization of local authorities, as well as transition measures between the State’s local administration and the local administration.

According to the statement issued by the third extraordinary session of the Council of Ministers, the Executive considers the institutionalization of local authorities to be a relevant measure for strengthening and consolidating the democratic process.

It also translates the practical implementation of the principle of administrative decentralization to bring services and decision-making centers closer to the population, says the note.
