Angola hosts Davis Cup Africa Group IV in June

Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Tennis Federation (FAT) announced the holding of the Africa Davis Cup Group IV, in Luanda, at the Kikuxi Villas Club Academy Fields, in the municipality of Viana, from the 17th to the 22nd of June this year, with the participation of eight countries.

The note, this Tuesday, in the country’s capital, states that FAT was chosen by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) to host the competition for the first time, which features players from Angola, Algeria, Burundi, Cameroon, Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Senegal.

In the Angolan capital, these countries will compete for two places in the 3rd Division (Africa Group III).

The federation’s communication is growing that the holding of the Africa Davis Cup Group IV in Angola is a significant milestone for tennis in the country, as it shows the nation’s growing prominence on the sport’s international stage.

It highlights that FAT is committed to ensuring an exciting and memorable Davis Cup experience for everyone involved, from players, spectators, media and sponsors.

“We extend our gratitude to the ITF for their confidence in our ability to host this important event and we look forward to welcoming all participating countries with great anticipation,” the document reads.

Angola debuted in this competition in 2001 and to date its best record occurred in the 2003 edition, where it came in seventh place. The country’s last participation was in 2021, in Brazzaville, Congo.

The Davis Cup is the World Tennis Championship for men’s national teams (main team). It has the participation of all ITF member countries, a total of 180.

The event is divided as follows:

1. World Group, made up of the 16 countries with the best results

2. 1st Division, composed of the zones: American, European and Asian

3. 2nd Division, composed of the zones: American, Euro – African and Asia/Oceania

4. 3rd, 4th, and 5th Division composed of African countries of which Angola
