Governor of Bié calls for greater attention to the Luando Natural Reserve

Africa-Press – Angola. The governor of the province of Bié, Pereira Alfredo, asked intermediate bodies this Monday, in Cuito, for greater attention to the Luando Integral Natural Reserve, as it is the sanctuary of the Giant Palanca Negra.

The government official made this appeal, when speaking at the opening ceremony of the legality week of the Central Judiciary Region, which the city of Cuito hosted, under the motto “The Public Ministry and Environmental Protection, Challenges and Perspective”.

The Luando Reserve is located in the province of Malange and extends to the commune of Luando, in the municipality of Cuembo, province of Bié.

It was initially created in 1935 as a Hunting Reserve.

However, in 1955 it became an Integral Natural Reserve so that the Giant Sable Antelope species could be conserved and preserved.

For Pereira Alfredo, the habitat of the Palanca Negra, a unique species in the world, must be protected and preserved by everyone, in order to allow the animal, symbol of the Nation, to develop and reproduce.

The forest occupies an area of 8,280 square kilometers. In addition to the Palanca, species such as Sitatunga and Pukus can also be found.

In turn, the deputy attorney general of the Republic (PGR) in Bié, Inácio Jaime Sebastião Prata, said that the preservation of the environment and all the species that surround it are also the responsibility of the PGR, as it is the supervisory body for legality, in addition to defending and promoting the fundamental rights and guarantees of citizens.

On the occasion, the coordinator of the Central Region of the PGR, Carlos Manuel dos Santos, highlighted the need for public prosecutors to debate the protection and support of ecological balance, in the face of the current environmental revolution.

“According to article 39 of the Constitution of the Angolan Republic (CRA), on environmental rights, all citizens have the right to live in a healthy and unpolluted environment, as well as the duty to defend and preserve it”, he concluded.

Centro Judicial Region launches magazine

The city of Cuito, capital of the province of Bié, hosted the presentation of the first magazine in the Central Judiciary Region, entitled “Ombala”, presented by the Deputy Attorney General of the Republic, Carlos Manuel dos Santos.

This region covers the provinces of Huambo, Benguela, Cuanza Sul and Bié.

The vehicle available in physical and digital format mirrors some of the work carried out by the institution in the four provinces.

According to Evaristo Endunde, one of the technicians who presented the project, the term “Ombala” was derived through a vote among magistrates in the region.

With that, Carlos Manuel dos Santos said that the name of the magazine “Ombala” was defined as the royal house, equivalent today as the palace, the house of the kingdom.

Central region will have 48 new public prosecutors

The central judicial region will have 48 new magistrates from the Public Ministry, informed the coordinator of this region of the PGR, Carlos Manuel dos Santos.

The Deputy Attorney General of the Republic said that they will soon be placed in the respective regions and provinces where they were appointed, to carry out their duties.

The beginning of legality week marks the activities related to the 45th anniversary of this PGR, to be celebrated on the 27th of this month.
