Angola bets on the mining industry to attract investments

Africa-Press – Angola. Angola is betting on the transformation of the mining industry and the energy transition to attract foreign investment, boosting economic growth and technology transfer.

This was stated by a consultant from the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Mankenda Ambróise, who was speaking this Wednesday at the opening of the 3rd Business Conference & Mining Exhibition (CEEM 2024).

According to the consultant, considering the steps taken by the ministry in recent years, it was possible to mobilize and attract potential investors such as “Rio Tinto, De Beers, Anglo American and Ivanhoe Mines”.

The need to adopt innovative technologies with the potential to increase efficiency, reduce operational costs and improve safety in the sector was mentioned.

Once adopted, he added, the productivity of mining operations can be improved and this sector more competitive globally.

He said that growing concern about environmental issues has led the mining industry to follow more sustainable practices, aiming to reduce the negative impacts of mining activities on the environment.

According to Mankenda Ambróise, the process includes the implementation of cleaner technologies, responsible waste management and the mitigation of impacts on local ecosystems.

“Sustainability is the pillar of this transformation, ensuring that the actions taken are aligned with the needs of the present, without compromising future generations”, he highlighted, adding that the mining industry is increasingly focused on environmental sustainability and corporate social responsibility.

For his part, the director of Bumbar Mining, organizer of the event, Sebastião Panzo, highlighted the importance of the forum, as it provides regular discussion of important aspects for the mining industry, especially for companies.

Scheduled to end on Thursday, the conference takes place under the motto “Innovation and sustainability: Towards the transformation of the mining industry”, in a round table format and individual presentations focused on a theme and features various participants.

The meeting aims to promote reflection and debate on the relevance of sustainability in the sector, as well as the conscious use of natural resources, seeking a balance between economic development and environmental preservation.

It also aims to exchange experiences on best practices and innovative trends for transforming the mining industry into a more sustainable and responsible sector.
