Africa-Press – Angola. Approximately 20 thousand cases have been evaluated by guarantee judges, since they took office, in 2023, by deliberation of the Plenary of the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSMJ).
This information was announced Thursday, in Luanda, by the judge advisor president of the Supreme Court, Joel Leonardo, during the celebration of the first year of office of the judge of guarantees.
He observed that, according to the reports, the problems of transportation, mobility of prisoners, spaces for hearings, among others, do not stand up to the advantages obtained by citizens in having a judge of guarantees closer to them, through the rule of due process Cool.
On the other hand, Joel Leonardo stated that, as there are few judges in certain districts, the solution is to help nearby districts, admitting, in the worst case scenario, the mobilization of itinerant judges.
While waiting for the digitalization files of the courts and the General Courts Vault, he considered it urgent to take over the newly appointed auditors, who are just waiting for the budget commitment.
He also said that it is urgent to reinforce more administrative employees, acquire vehicles, purchase computers, expendable material and other means, for better fluidity of support units for guarantee judges and other general court services.
“We will make guarantee judges a vehicle for more justice and respect for the rights and freedoms of citizens and the protection of the general interests of society and the country’s development”, he asserted.
The guarantee judge has the mission of monitoring and safeguarding the protection of the citizen’s fundamental rights and freedoms enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Angola, during the initial phase of the process.
The country has 359 Guarantee Judges.
