Africa-Press – Angola. The inspector-general of the State Administration defended, yesterday, in Luanda, that the actions of the IGAE have been contributing to the transparency of the management of State funds, which allowed the agents to correctly use the public resources made available, for a just Public Administration for the benefit of the population.
Sebastião Gunza told the press, at the end of the audience with the United Kingdom’s ambassador to Angola, Roger Stringer, that he addressed the situation of combating corruption, money laundering and financing of terrorism, referring that as a result of these actions, the use of ostensible and abusive resources.
“Because of this action, public agents are now more aware that they should not misuse public resources, which we call general prevention, within the framework of the activity. Today, there is more care with public resources and the framework is totally different”, he assured.
He said that whenever management irregularities are detected, such as misappropriation and embezzlement of funds, the Inspectorate General of State Administration (IGAE) will always have the obligation to investigate, analyze and process them in order to be forwarded to the competent bodies of justice, with emphasis on the Attorney General’s Office, the Court of Auditors and the Criminal Investigation Service.
He acknowledged that there are still signs of corruption in the country and that there is a long road to eradication. “We are certain that there are still signs of corruption in Angola. We are still children on this journey. In fact, there are countries, such as Sweden, that have been fighting corruption for 200 years, and the authorities of this country say that there are still signs of corruption in many organizations”, he said, pointing out that, in four years, Angola has done hard work in this matter.
He referred that this exercise has contributed to a significant improvement in Angola’s transparency in the international ranking.
With the United Kingdom, according to Sebastião Gunza, IGAE wants to maintain bilateral cooperation to exchange experience in the field of combating corruption, money laundering and terrorist financing. “When the student goes to school, his objective is to learn. The cooperation with the United Kingdom is to acquire the best experiences to bring them to Angola. The United Kingdom has vast experience with regard to the development of the activity”, he reaffirmed.
For his part, the United Kingdom’s ambassador, Roger Stringer, said that his country and Angola are interested in strengthening cooperation in the fight against corruption in public institutions of the State. “We are organizing a visit by the IGAE delegation to the United Kingdom to share experiences, knowledge regarding crimes related to the fight against corruption. My country has an open democratic system and the laws work in accordance with the Constitution. We are always ready to investigate all crimes that can be identified in the country”, he highlighted.
