The Secretariat of the MPLA Political Bureau carried out, Thursday (14), at its 3rd Extraordinary Meeting, an approach on the methodology for composing the list of MPLA candidates for deputies to the National Assembly, within the framework of the actions carried out , to obtain a significant victory in the next general elections.
According to the statement, the Secretariat of the Political Bureau approved, during the meeting, led by the party’s vice-president, Luísa Damião, the schedule for holding political acts, as well as the program for the IV Workshops of the MPLA Parliamentary Group.
The Political Bureau also dealt with current political, social, economic and cultural matters in the country, taking into account the latest developments, such as the inauguration, by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, of the Cafu canal, in Cunene province, the first of five structuring projects to combat drought in the south of the country.
“The Cunene River Water Transfer System is thus the beginning of the materialization of the path to combat drought in the region, directly benefiting 235,000 families, 250,000 animals and the irrigation of five thousand hectares of agricultural fields”, underlines the communiqué of the MPLA Political Bureau.
The members of the Secretariat of the Political Bureau took advantage of the celebration of the 54th anniversary of the Angolan Youth Day, celebrated yesterday, April 14, to carry out “a profound reflection on the prioritization of the needs and concerns of Angolan youth”, having recognized the role played by her played in “building a more developed, democratic and inclusive Angola”. The Angolan Youth Day was instituted in memory of the hero and nationalist José Mendes de Carvalho “Hoji-ya-Henda”, killed in combat in 1968, in the village of Caripande.
Members of the Secretariat of the Political Bureau of the MPLA Central Committee also praised the grandeur of the recent mass political act in Ondjiva, which marked the launch of the MPLA pre-election campaign, in an event led by President João Lourenço, candidate of the .
They appealed, according to the statement, “to the union, cohesion and engagement of all MPLA militants, sympathizers and friends for the desired victory in the general elections next August”. In recent weeks, the MPLA has held meetings in several provinces, to stimulate and sensitize the militants, within the guidelines of their direction, taking into account the preparation of conditions for victory in the next elections.
