Africa-Press – Angola. UNITA began, this Friday, in the city of Cuito, Bié province, the process of mobilizing cadres and activists at the level of all municipalities in the country, as part of the preparation for local authorities.
This action is part of the continuation of the resolutions of the Permanent Committee of this party, which chose 2024 as the year of national mobilization.
Speaking to the press, UNITA’s national secretary for local authorities, Alcino Cuvalela, said the intention is to talk to the intellectual masses, ecclesiastical and traditional authorities of the country’s 164 municipalities, with a view to assessing the level of readiness of staff in these locations..
In the municipality of Cuito, for example, the person in charge said that he will speak to this party’s pre-candidates for mayor, with the aim of reinforcing their responsibilities.
However, the politician highlighted that UNITA’s intention is for local elections to be held simultaneously in all municipalities.
The National Assembly approved, on the 23rd of this month, in general and unanimously, the Bill on the Effective Institutionalization of Local Authorities of the UNITA parliamentary group.
The bill was approved with 170 votes in favor, none against and no abstentions, during the 5th Plenary Meeting of the second legislative Session of the V Legislature of the National Assembly.
The proposal aims to effectively institutionalize and create local authorities in Angola, determine the acts and formalities for their institutionalization and adopt measures to ensure a responsible and efficient transition from State Local Administration bodies to Local Government Administration capable of safeguarding national unity and the balanced and harmonious development of the country.
