Africa-Press – Angola. The volume of trade and goods traded, in 2023, between Angola and France is around 3.7 billion euros, said this Friday, the French ambassador to the country, Sophie Aubert.

Speaking to the press after an audience with the president of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, he detailed that trade from Angola to France amounts to 1.7 billion euros and from France to Angola 2 billion euros..

In the 2020/2022 period, exchange between the two countries amounted to around four billion dollars, with 2.9 billion dollars being exports from Angola to France and 1.1 billion from France to Angola.

However, the diplomat expressed her country’s interest in expanding the implementation of projects carried out in Angola linked to strengthening human capital, education, agriculture and diversifying the national economy.

“We have a very strong relationship with Angola, we are implementing many programs in the country in various areas”, highlighted the diplomat.

She said that the priority is to accompany Angola in its development, especially in the areas of human capital, education, higher education, agriculture and diversification of its economy and ensuring access to food”, she noted.

The diplomat made it known that France is one of the main suppliers of cereals (wheat) in Angola.

Parliamentary cooperation

The French diplomat also said that she discussed with her interlocutor the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the parliamentary field, through the sharing of information of common interest, exchange of experiences, training of staff, among others.

According to the ambassador, the strengthening of international parliamentary cooperation is part of the visit that the president of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, made in March this year to France within the framework of International Human Rights Day.

“We want to follow up on this visit by implementing a parliamentary cooperation program and exchanging ideas that are of interest to the National Assembly”, he concluded.

France has maintained diplomatic relations with Angola since Independence, on November 11, 1975.

The first agreement signed in 1982 laid the foundations for bilateral cooperation with one of the country’s main economic partners, responsible for a very strong presence in the Oil and intends to expand exchanges in other areas.

Until the end of 2016, diplomatic and cooperation relations between both countries were expanding, highlighting France’s interest and desire to make Angola a privileged partner, not only on the African continent, but above all to make it one of the biggest investment destinations French abroad.

More than one hundred French companies operate in Angola and provide around 10 thousand jobs.
