Africa-Press – Angola. The president of the council of the Angolan Bar Association (OAA) in the province of Huambo, Domingos Sassi, asked, this Friday, for more rigor from members in defending citizens’ rights, in favor of compliance with the law.
Domingos Sassi expressed this position during the delivery of 38 ballots to an equal number of lawyers, joining another 573.
On the occasion, he mentioned that it is essential to continuously study the legislative diplomas in force in the country, to dignify the class and better position itself before citizens in conflict with the law.
The president of the OAA in Huambo recommended that professionals learn from the inside how the association works, to provide a better quality service to society, knowing their rights and obligations.
As an example, he recalled as one of the requirements, the participation of everyone in the voting process, for the election of the new council of the Angolan Bar Association (OAA) in this region of the country.
He clarified that in case of failure to participate in the event, which will take place in the next few days, the professional must be fined 60 thousand Kwanzas, to be paid within six months.
For his part, the delegate for Justice and Human Rights in the province of Huambo, Alfredo Felo Sachiliva, highlighted the commitment and rigor of the OAA in training staff to safeguard fundamental rights.
The person in charge said that the current number of lawyers satisfies the demand, mainly in the area of the population’s access to justice.
Aécio Niuca, one of the new lawyers, expressed full availability in defending the interests of citizens, who seek legal services, based on justice, dignity and respect for the human person.
Afonsa Saixas Horácio, awarded at the same ceremony, said she was prepared to face the challenges of this profession, which requires a lot of commitment and dedication, especially in defending the wronged.
Established in 1996, at the time as a provincial delegation, the Council of the Bar Association of Angola in Huambo currently controls 611 lawyers.
