Africa-Press – Angola. The inauguration of the Matala Hydroelectric Plant, Huíla province, by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, marked the political news.

The Angolan Executive has invested 106 million, 940 thousand, 676, 12 Euros in its rehabilitation since 2019, increasing production capacity from 27. 7 to 40. 8 megawatts.

The increase in production by 13.6 MW will be made possible with the entry into operation of the third turbine and improve the provision of electricity distribution services to communities connected to the southern interconnected system.

In the municipality of Matala, the Head of State, in statements to the press, stated that the transport and distribution of electrical energy must be the “priority of priorities”, taking into account the sustainable development of Angola and the well-being of citizens.

The participation of the Head of State in Moroni, Comoros Islands, in the investiture of the fourth term of his Comorian counterpart, Azali Assoumani, is also a highlight.

During the past week, President João Lourenço received in audience the Turkish ambassador to Angola, Ufuk Ekici, with whom he discussed the increase in economic and political relations between the two countries.

Emphasis is also placed on the delivery of the General State Account Opinion Report to the National Assembly by the Court of Auditors.

The presiding judge of the Court of Auditors (TC), Sebastião Gunza, delivered the CGE Opinion Report (with 21 recommendations to the Executive) to the president of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira.

Speaking to the press, the TC’s advisory judge, Fausto de Carvalho Simões, indicated that, compared to the previous opinion which had 74 recommendations, this “reveals an improvement in the ease of the Executive’s accountability”.

The working meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, and the French ambassador to Angola, Sophie Aubert, also dominated ANGOP’s political news.

The interlocutors analyzed the state of cooperation between the two countries, as well as aspects of common, regional and international interest.

On the other hand, Minister Téte António assessed with the Australian authorities the deepening of political, diplomatic, commercial relations and aspects linked to the global agenda.

In the Defense sector, Angola expressed interest in acquiring from the United States of America a system for building state-of-the-art military machines, logistics transport vehicles and aircraft.

The intention was presented by the Minister of Defense, João Ernesto dos Santos, during a meeting with his counterpart Lloyd Austin, in Washington DC.

Highlights include two events that marked the recent history of Angola, namely the 27th of May 1977 (attempted coup d’état) and the 31st of May 1991 (Bicesse Peace Accords).

ANGOP also highlighted the second anniversary of the designation of President João Lourenço as Champion of the African Union for Peace and Reconciliation in Africa.
